The challenge
Plataforma de Organizaciones de Pacientes (POP) is an umbrella organization that groups patients’ associations from all over Spain. They built a platform on PowerBI called Datos POP Salud that comprised data related to the quality of life of patients.
The platform was functional and running, but there was an unforeseen event, and they urgently needed help in updating and improving it.
That’s where zenital came in. Although we didn’t have the key technical background, context and information, we started working with them to help with this challenge in record time. Our great communication with POP made possible the (almost) impossible.
What we did
The task was to update the reports and to help POP in establishing and understanding their structure, so they will always have control over their platform.
We had a tight timeline, because they had to present the data to authorities in barely ten days, but we succeeded in delivering it on time, thanks in part to the good interlocution we had with the client.
We worked alongside POP and a research collaborator from a university to access the raw data.
Data came from public sources such as Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) and was stored on a statistics software, SPSS. We downloaded it on Excel and CSV and execute the necessary transformations on Synapse, and then updated or adjusted the reports on PowerBI.

What we achieved
- We improved and updated the main report in ten days, in time for the presentation to the authorities.
- Once the main need was addressed, we added new pathologies to the reports and grouped them in categories, so that data can be better analyzed.
- We prepared the environment for a possible future automatization through an API, and transferred the necessary information to the client.
It was a challenge to adapt and improve the reports in such a tight timeline and with almost no technical context.
Still, we succeeded in enhancing the reports and in helping POP to have all the information they need for future updates and improvements. POP was a great interlocutor to work with, always there for our requests.
“Partnering with zenital has been a key step forward for our open data platform. Their guidance has enabled us to update and integrate essential information on patients’ quality of life, improve data visualization, and lay the groundwork for future automation.
It has been a strategic collaboration that strengthens our commitment to transparency and the generation of useful knowledge for the entire healthcare system”
Pedro Carrascal, Executive Director of POP

How to change an entire data strategy
I imagine 8wires as that sincere and honest partner that takes you out of all that noise and helps you focus on what is important, no matter how unsexy it may be, to achieve a great long-term goal.
The one who accompanies you through the hard times and helps you through the tough decisions, knowing that there is no easy road. The one who gives you the push or the tools so that you climb and be yourself the one who reaches the summits you propose in a healthy, sustainable and energetic way. And above all, the one who steps aside when he knows that he is not helping you or that he will not be able to give you what you need.
I don't know if it is helpful, but somehow I saw on the web a visual explanation of the problem in the data/technology world (I don't know if with this metaphor) before showing how it is to work with us and finally, another visual explanation of the result.
